Musical talent is a characteristic that often runs in the family, and that’s certainly the case for Stella Santana. The rising pop starlet is the daughter of one of the best guitarists of all time, the iconic Carlos Santana, and carries a similar vitality for creation in her own life and artistry. Since emerging in the middle of the last decade, she has released a debut album Selfish back in 2016, and has followed that up with a series of impressive, vibrant single offerings such as “My Summer Time” and “All The Time”. She has now returned for a first offering since 2021; showcasing her progression as a musician and creation, “Highways” is a strong comeback single.
First written four years ago, the track maintains its nuance and impact. With an air of mystery surrounding the textured instrumental that comes courtesy of multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Nico Farmakalidis (NicoTheOwl) and Danish producer Malthe Guldberg, there is an intriguing and infectious atmosphere created across the soundscape, which Santana sublimely floats across the palette. The feature comes in the form of Josef Lee, who augments the vocal work of Santana with a striking feature and flawless chemistry.
Speaking on the track, Stella adds, “”Highways felt so cool the day we made it so to finally get to put it out almost 4 years later and still feel excited about it is a nice feeling”.
“Highways” is plucked from her upcoming self-released EP Distant, which is increasingly anticipated by us!
